COUTANCES VISIT - SEPTEMBER 2008

More than forty members of the Club recently travelled to France to celebrate the 22nd anniversary visit to the Loisirs Corporatifs Coutances.

It was good to see some new faces amongst the Jersey party who evidently enjoyed their weekend - whether through the game or the entertainment, I'm not sure!

On the Saturday, 18 teams from each side played four games each in a doubles format, one game before the usual splendid lunch, three after. Jersey won the first two rounds 10-8 and the third round was drawn. Unfortunately the Jersey team ran out of steam in the last game as either age or the aforsaid lunch took its toll and they lost that round 12-6, meaning that overall the French team took the honours 37-35.

The usual Saturday night dinner and prize giving was held in Gouville-sur-Mer. Following an excellant meal, we were entertained by a local group of Line Dancers who took the opportunity to try to teach those present the rudiments of that style of dance. Certain Jersey Club members seemed to throw themselves into the spirit of the evening more than others! I will mention no names but their photos are available for a small fee!

At the prize giving, top Jersey pair were Joan & Dennis Le Mercier with 4 wins, plus 37, second were Jane & Ian Rondel, 4 wins plus 27 and third were Linda Taylor & Lawrence Rondel, 3 wins plus 24. The top team for the local club were Dominique Mesnage and Francis Colas. Maggie & Tony Allchurch and Trixie & Lawrence Moulin ensured that prizes for Fannys were not solely a French perogative.
